figure-eight knot
The figure-eight knot is a stopper knot. It is used to prevent the rope from slipping out of the pulley at the end of the line. The pulley makes it easier to redirect the line and its rope under strong pulling forces.
square knot
The square knot is a joining knot. It is used to join two ends of rope of equal thickness. Under tension, the knot is very strong. If the force on it eases, the knot can be untied quickly.
Palstek
The bowline is a mooring knot. When tied, it forms a loop that does not tighten. It is used to secure ships to bollards and to attach fenders. Fenders protect the ship's hull from damage that can occur during docking maneuvers or while moored against the quay.
Round trip with 2 half beats
The round turn with two half hitches is a fastening knot. It is used to quickly and securely attach a rope to an object. The round turn can be tied and untied under load. It is very strong under load, but can also gradually loosen on its own when not under tension.

The simple sheet bend is used to join lines of the same or different thicknesses. It is also used with lines that have particular stiffness due to their material composition.

The double sheet bend is used when joining two lines of unequal strength. The double sheet bend is significantly more durable under load than the single sheet bend.

The trumpet hitch is a shortening knot. It is used to reduce the length of a rope. The trumpet hitch can also be used for repairs, as it relieves tension on a damaged section of the rope. Its use should be considered a short-term measure, as the knot can easily come undone during use.

The clove hitch is a fastening knot. It is used to attach a line to a round object. A fender is often secured to a railing with it. The knot must be tightened before being subjected to any tension, because without the pulling force acting upon it, it can easily come undone.
Clove hitch on slip knot
The slip knot is a fastening knot. Tied like a slip knot, it ends with a loop. This variation offers the advantage of being able to quickly untie the knot after its often short-term use.
