  • In celebration of 1000 years of Mecklenburg and 777 years of Rostock.

  • 70 tall ships from 7 nations.
  • Star sails: WHITE SHARK, FRIDTJOF NANSEN and AMPHRODITE.
  • Smallest participating vessel: 7 m steam launch SAPPHIRE.
  • At an impressive forum on August 11, 1995, sailors protested against nuclear tests on the Mururoa Atoll and appealed to the government and the president of the French Republic.

1996

  • 6th Hanse Sail from August 8th to 11th, 1996
  • 220 sailing ships from 21 nations.
  • 1 million visitors.
  • Star sailors: EAGLE, CAPITAN MIRANDA, CUAUHTEMOC and the SHABAB OMAN, the most beautiful and largest wooden sailing ship in the world.
  • Patron and Federal President Roman Herzog arrived on the bark ALEXANDER v. HUMBOLDT.
  • The weather was characterized by storms with wind speeds of 8 to 10.
  • The youth event "Run of the Nautical Mile" took place.

1997

  • 7th Hanse Sail from August 7th to 10th, 1997
  • Full-rigged ships KHERSONES, ANTIGUA, PEACE and THALASSA.
  • The navy had its flagship, the new frigate MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN, dock in Rostock and offered ship tours and "open base days" at HOHE DÜNE.
  • The Hanse Sail Talent Regatta was held, a competition for young performers in the entertainment arts.
  • 120 participating ships.
