- The star sailors are SEDOV, KHERSONES and the largest still sailing barque STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL.
- 12,000 guests took advantage of the sailing opportunities offered by the traditional ships.
- Entertainer Horst Köbbert signs Rostock's book of honor.

- 9th Hanse Sail from August 5th to 8th, 1999
- Peter Rath will be the new chairman of HSV.
- 170 participating ships took 20,000 guests on day trips.
- Star sailing ships: SEDOV, GORCH FOCK and HORDATRAL.
2000
- 10th Hanse Sail from August 10th to 13th, 2000
- Current tally: 40,000 seafarers from 40 countries on board around 650 traditional sailing ships.
- Peter Rath's book "Sailing Ships Upwind" has been published; contacts were established with Great Britain, Australia, the USA and Japan for the contributions.
2001
- 11th Hanse Sail from August 9th to 12th, 2001
- Gerhard Schröder (Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany) assumed patronage, a recognition of the nationwide success of the Windjammer Meeting.
- He was presented with a sea chest containing sailpost from the people of the coastal region.
